- my super strong-supervisor carried a kavadi yesterday -

went to Malaysian Red Crescent Society yesterday with ann. got there at around 1pm, and were assigned the task of wrapping and arranging boxes containing mineral waters, nestle prebio 1, 3-in-1 nescafe sachets that probably came straight from the manufacturers themselves. At one point, we got tired and we went to hangout with a bunch of middle-aged men who apparently are in-charge of communication. (got tht "u look like a chinese" bit again...weird considering tht i'm sooo dark now. but weirder things hv happened when i hangout with ann, like when listeing to us talk, ppl would think ann is a chinese and me a sarawakian or a sabahan, like "huh?" ). anyway, they've been to aceh a coupla weeks ago, so we told them tht we're also interested to go there...hehehe (as if we're qualified) ...and were advised against it as the situation there is still very bad... anyways, they asked us wht we were doing in the heat of the afternoon sun prior to hanging out with them, told them about the boxes and stuff, and they were like, "ha? itu keje org laki, pegi lipat baju kat sana tu, ambik yg elok, yg buruk buang je". (huh? tht's a man's job, go and fold the clothes over there, keep the good ones, throw away the bad ones.)...smiling, we said, ok ok, and off we went back to the packing area...that was certainly more fun than folding up old used clothes tht we wouldn't know which to throw and which to keep...hmmmm, come to think of it, as volunteers, we were pretty darned choosy, werent we?..hehehe, anyways, they welcome more volunteers, no, they NEED more volunteers, so go gO GO... volunteers r treated well, they are served b'fast, lunch, tea..not sure abt dinner tho'.

second half of the day, went to seoul bulgogi, had a good time stuffing ourselves with the steamboat buffet they got there...the place is nicer, cleaner and cooler than nelayan ttwangsa, but still could not beat nelayan shah alam, dont know if it's still open, but the last time we went there, they also got the grill plate around the pot, in fact, think it was the only nelayan tht had it, and best of all, it offered satay meat on the buffet list, yummy ....too bad it was closed for renovation not long after tht visit..

- a weekend of weird encounters -

saw a pretty big lizard at the faculty today... always see him around on a hot quiet afternoon like today, guess he got lonely and went out to look for a friend tht he can hangout with... but instead, he found me, got scared and ran away...

was served with a new variation of lemang yesterday (back in masjid tanah) - sticky rice cooked in the pitcher plant..tasted just like lemang, alaaa, it is after all pulut biasa je, cume tak guna buluh, pakai periuk kera...

- sporty et -

2 nights ago, while on our way to the stadium to watch some friends perform in the inter-faculty games, got a call from mas, asking (begging??) me to run in the 4x100m women's relay... me, run?? was she crazy or wht???!! i hv never competed in any running event my whole life, no wait, make tht any sporting event... (ujian tenaga asas; jangkauan melunjur, sit-up, 1500m dont count, ok? and besides, even then pon, i never managed to complete the 1500m, hehehe...)
well anyway, we lost, got 4th or 5th? i'm not sure...i'm pretty sure we could've won, but the rest of the girls hv competed in the other events, so by tht time, they were already very worn out, and i was soooo not the person to save the day, now was i?? but at least, we weren't last, tht's good enough for me, considering tht i did very minimal warm-up exe and was given a crash course (lari2 anak-sambut-sprint-stay on the left-kata UP, beware of the yellow line, ok, got tht! wht yellow line??) on the event just minutes before it started... and despite all tht, i surprisingly managed to not let anyone get past me during my leg (2 org je pon kat belakang tu)...bangga laaa... hehehe...
friends r saying tht i should go for long-distance events as i have a looong stride (yela, dah tinggi kan) and could maintain the same speed (translation: lembap dan takleh pecut)..whatever, wht's important for me is tht i had made a contribution to the team, yay!!

...surfing cherating....

got an sms from an old collegue asking me if i'd be interested to join them sufing in cherating next weekend.. and again i have to say no. it's not tht i'm not interested, it's just tht with the recent tragedy, i'm just not tht thrilled to take things (life) lightly anymore. although some may say tht the likelihood of something like tht happening to our east coast might be close to nil, i'd say, anything can happen if God wills it, and it can happen anywhere...and besides, i am still not a strong swimmer yet, and with the explosive monsoon waves, i'm not taking any chances... him, on the hand, goes down to cherating a few times during the monsoon season every year, his dad calls it his annual pilgrimage...well, for me, this is not the kind of pilgrimage tht i'd like to make
Furthermore, another friend is arranging for a visit to one of the tsunami-struck areas in kedah.. no news from him yet, looks more like it might not gonna take place, but i'm really hoping tht it will...
eh kejap, next weekend is the Hajj celebration...ape kebendanya aku nak g surfing??...yup, tht's another reason why i aint going

hisssssssssss................

day : sunday
time: 820pm

me was leaving the office...saw a bicycle chain lying on the ground as i was driving towards the front exit of the faculty, drove over it, felt a slight bump...looked into the front mirror just to get a second look at it...wait a minute, how come it'd moved a lil' bit to the left..backed my car, saw the bicycle chain moved...shit, it's not a bicycle chain, it's a snake, SHIT, i drove over a snake!! (dont know if tht's a good or a bad thing) erghhhh...too bad i didnt bring my camera!!!...helpless and clueless and frustrated and sorry for the snake, i just watched it as it slithered away into the bushes (the seemingly unkept garden(?) opposite the barrier gate, so guys, be careful) ...
This morning, told our (part-time??) janitor about it..he was sweeping the ground around the gate area... described the snake for him. he said he'll look for it...we dont want our kids to get hurt eh..btw, the snake was unhurt by my car, the size...quite long, approx 1m long, wasnt entirely green (ular daun) or black (ular lidi)..was batik-like - yup, tht would be my description of it.....

a day of mishap...

it was around 12.48 am last nite, went to farid's room. found him sleeping. woke him up, told him tht i was going home. waited for him to shut down his laptop. once done, groggily, he walked out of his room and i followed. trying to be helpful, i locked the door, pulled it outward real hard so the lock would catch, and suddenly...debooosshh, i fell to the back with the door handle still in my hand...yikes sorry, farid, was just trying to help, nonetheless, methink it was already very reput, guess, it was just my luck (or the lack of it) tht it happened to me...

Another one today...

Taken in front of the Computer Science Faculty...

............. speechless .....nonetheless, Alhamdullillah, nobody was injured..

Just another day on a malaysian road...

Shot this on my way to the office.

This was in serdang, on the road in front of the pasar malam area...the car was right in the middle of the road, and there were lots of ppl gawking (not helping, mind you), and i had to squeeze my way (in my car la) thru all of the commotion...since i didnt wanna be a typical malaysian, i just quickly drove on, which explains the weird angle and focus of the picture...

Great way to start the new year, huh?

did some crazy stuff(climbing and jumping at some of the unusual places in the faculty) end of last year, last week to be more exact, and now suffering the consequences of my (stunt) actions...hehehe. but heck, these bruises will clear up in a week or two... - actually feel kinda proud to have them .
